Home EV Charging vs. Commercial Charging: What’s the Difference?

Home charging is most commonly used for the daily purpose due to its cost efficiency and convenience. Since these chargers are usually level 1 or level2 they charge slowly, hence a perfect fit for an overnight charge in a garage or parking space. is the most convenient and cost-effective option for daily use.   • Slow Charging:  Level 1 and Level 2 chargers are considered as slow chargers due to their long charging hours. However, they are suitable for daily charging needs and require a parking space with an outlet at home or office.
  • Fast Charging: DC Fast charging is the ultra-fast charging option. It is best used for long routes like on highways or in public places when you are in a hurry.  

Is it Cheaper to Charge an EV at Home or at a Charging Station?

At present, it is offering free public charging for registered EV users in 2025, which obviously makes it a cheaper option than charging at home.

However, the downside of this is that once the offer becomes invalid, the charges may vary according to the plans offered. In this scenario, home charging becomes a cost effective option, at off peak hours.

OCPP
